JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:  Responsible for the organization, administration and supervision of the District’s student transportation system in accordance with state laws and Board policy

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor and/or superintendent.

  • Organize, implement and manage PTS’ pupil transportation system consistent with state law and Board policy
  • Directly supervise transportation office employees
  • Approves and monitors safety in the assignment of bus stops, routing and scheduling
  • Oversees and ensures compliance with all regulations governing bus driver licensing and DOT regulations
  • Collaborates with other District administrators during inclement weather regarding school closing and student safety
  • Develops, in collaboration with District Administration, district bus replacement plan and standards for future bus purchases
  • Ensure compliance of all state requirements for all transportation staff
  • Oversees professional development for all transportation staff
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained for preparation of state and local reports
  • Use of transportation software systems in the planning, forecasting and assigning of student transportation
  • Oversees bus maintenance operations and routines to ensure buses are readied for annual state safety inspections
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a related major, or a combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in school transportation or logistics
  • Valid CDL
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Laws and regulations related to K-12 student transportation
  • Possesses interpersonal skills that allow for productive and professional communication with staff, students, and parents
  • Demonstrates ability to ensure communication between District administration, building principals, transportation staff and building staff
  • Ability to recognize and remedy common safety, security and health hazards
  • Experience with collective bargaining units
  • Ability to work accurately and productively with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully preform the essential functions of the job.

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, sitting, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds or more) as well as use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
