Hours: 8.5 Hours 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 30 Minute Unpaid Lunch

Summary: The job of Daytime Custodian/Groundskeeper was established for the purpose/s of providing custodial services and groundskeeping at the assigned building; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations, and assisting in preparing for and maintaining facilities both indoors and outside for classroom activities and building-level events.

 

Essential Functions:

Include the following plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building custodial supervisor.

Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.

  • Changing filters on a regular basis.
  • Mowing Responsibilities
    • Push Mower – Utilize push mower in areas/corners close to building not accessible by tractor and islands in the parking lots.
    • All other areas must be trimmed with a weed eater. This includes all trees, shrubs, signs, poles, curbs, and edges of the building.
    • Sidewalks and entryways should be free of grass clippings and debris.
  • Weeding
    • The following areas should be weeded and maintained on a regular basis: flower beds, areas around signage, mulched areas, playgrounds or outdoor sports fields, islands in the parking lots, parking lots, picnic areas, sidewalks, and entrances
  • Check school grounds and remove litter and debris, and empty trash cans from school grounds on a daily basis
  • Snow Removal
    • Use a tractor to remove snow from main sidewalks and playgrounds.
    • Shovel or snow blow any other areas or entryways not accessible by a tractor.
    • Use salt spreader on walks, driveways, and playgrounds, as needed.
  • Rake Leaves
    • Leaves should be raked and removed on a regular basis during the fall.
  • Pruning and trimming of small trees and bushes
    • Bushes and trees on school grounds should be trimmed and maintained, as needed.
  • Mulching
    • Maintain mulch coverage in areas around trees, poles and signs as needed.
    • Maintain mulch coverage on playgrounds.
  • Clean, dust mop, scrub and wax resilient floors as needed to protect floor finish.
  • Operate floor scrubber and buffer.
  • Shampoo carpeting when assigned.
  • Dry mop floors in rooms and hallways.
  • Clean and vacuum carpeting in rooms.
  • Empty wastebaskets and dispose of refuse in appropriate waste containers.
  • Stock machines and/or towel dispensers
  • Scrub and disinfect shower and locker rooms as assigned.
  • Change incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.
  • Clean chalkboards and erasers as assigned.
  • Clean chairs and desktops in assigned area(s)
  • Clean and scrub walls, water fountains, sinks, bowls, etc.
  • Clean glass in windows both on the inside and outside as assigned.
  • Clean snow, ice, and debris from all sidewalks and entrances to the building when assigned.
  • Clean restroom areas as assigned.
  • Clean heating and ventilating equipment as assigned.
  • Move Furniture and/or equipment as assigned.
  • Checks all building entrances/exits throughout the day to ensure that they secured.
  • Performs lunchroom activities (e.g. set-up, clean-up, stacking chairs, wiping tables, hauling trash, dumping trash, mopping kitchen, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students are fed and the lunchroom area is maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Keep custodial storage area(s) clean, neat, and free of clutter and combustible materials.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Be responsible for the security of all school corporation keys issued.
  • Submit a request for supplies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director or Supervisor

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and using the appropriate equipment occasionally move objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is required to use the appropriate personal protection equipment when performing these tasks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
