Director of Health Services  

 

Objective:  The Director of Health Services is directly responsible to support, supervise and coordinate the school district’s health service.  The Director ensures that the district complies with state statutes as well as administrative rules and regulations of local, county, state, and federal health agencies related to students.  

 

Qualifications:  Valid Indiana License as Registered Nurse who holds a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Strong leadership, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are essential to this position.  This will require a proven background in managing and supervising personnel.  Past experience related to school health is required.   

 

                           Current CPR certification 

                           Computer skills desired

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Evaluate programs and services within the school district, for the provision of comprehensive health services to student
  2. Reports – Coordinates completion of required student health reports, screening and forms in a timely man
  3. Process – Maintain a continuous health program for all students through implementing and monitoring health services in accordance with laws, regulations, and standards of practice.  
  4. Assist in the nursing process to collect, interpret, and record information about the health, development, and educational status of students to ensure a nursing diagnosis and health care plans are developed for those identified. Participate in 504 and IEP meetings for students.
  5. Supervision – Supervise and coordinate the activities of school nurses and health assistants.   
  6. Leadership -  Provides leadership in the professional practice setting promoting staff to reach higher level of professionalism through self study, education, training and experiences. Pursue active involvement in a state or national level committee.
  7. Policy and Procedure – Plan, develop and implement approved policies and procedures for school health services that prescribe strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes. 
  8. Ethics – Integrate ethical provisions in all areas of practice. 
  9. School Health Program – Collaborates to coordinate health and other health related services as needed to maximize the educational potential of the student.  Collaboration involves partnerships with the family, other school professionals, and community health and social service providers and agencies.
  10. Prevention – Create a safe and healthful school environment through health programs,    employing principles of learning and appropriate teaching in the delivery of health education and acting as a resource to students, families, staff, and the community regarding health services, health education and a healthy environment. 
  11.   Inventory – ensure all schools within the district have adequate and appropriate medical and health/wellness supplies.
  12.  Establish and maintain, in accordance with recommended guidelines, efficient and effective  procedures and criteria in accordance with state codes, regulations, and licensing for the recruitment, interviewing, selection, and  recommendation for employment of health services personnel.       
  13.  Perform other related duties as assigned.
