SUMMARYThe job of a plumber was established for the purposes of providing plumbing services, per district/local/state/federal objectives and/or standards, with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading plumbing systems and equipment; assisting other skills trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job sites. 

 

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of plumbing systems for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. 
  • Maintains assigned vehicle, equipment, and tools for the purpose of ensuring availability in a safe operating condition.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Coordinates with the assigned Director of Maintenance and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Install, repair, and maintain the water distribution system piping,  and vent piping including all plumbing fixtures and appurtenances as per the plumbing codes and regulations
  • Repair, and maintain the fire protection system piping, safety equipment, and lawn sprinkler systems.
  • The Plumber repairs and maintains plumbing systems for all restrooms, laboratories, mechanical rooms, swimming pools, kitchens, water distribution systems, safety eyewash and deluge shower piping systems, as well as underground soil drainage, sewer, acid waste piping, and dilution basins, and campus water main distribution systems.
  • Inspects work site to determine repairs needed, method of repair, and supplies and tools required.
  • Plan, layout, fabricate and assemble piping and fixtures required.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to the worksite and install and/or repair piping systems as needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Prepares written records of daily work activities via the work ticket system.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action, and/or complying with health and building regulations.
  • Inspects plumbing systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating conditions, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventive maintenance.
  • Monitors the plumbing work of outside contractors (e.g. new school sites, plumbing system expansions/upgrades, major remodels, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the projects are satisfactorily completed and within district specifications.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring the availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.

 

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or GED

2. Knowledge of Plumbing, as it applies to maintenance code requirements and safety standards is required.
3. Troubleshooting skills, plumbing techniques, equipment, materials, and tools used by a plumber. 
4. Minimum of 5 years experience in plumbing trades and possess an appropriate license (...)
5. Valid Indiana driver’s license with good driving record. Possess a Class B CDL or be willing to obtain one (training provided)

individuals with disabilities perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as recommended or stipulated by OSHA and as specified in the Material Safety Data Sheets for the materials being used.
